A
native of Woking in Surrey, I moved west to become an undergraduate at
the University of Bath (1983 - 1987, including a year at Pfizer Central
Research 1985 - 86). A move north then led to postgraduate research under
the supervision of Sue
Gibson at the University of Warwick (1987 - 1990) on irontricarbonyl
complexes of vinylketenes and vinylketenimines and their application to
asymmetric synthesis. This was followed by an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship
at Heidelberg University,Germany, working on chiral Lewis acids with Gunter
Helmchen (1990 - 1992). Returning to the UK, I took up a lectureship
at Cardiff University and was promoted to a senior lectureship in 1999.
In May 2001 I took up to a readership at Queen Mary, University of London,
before moving to my current position in September 2007. Recreation time
is mainly based in the mountains, either climbing up or skiing down. |
