Synthesis
of functionalised indolizidines. Indolizidine alkaloids provide
a wide variety of physiological responses in man, ranging from toxicity
of coniceine and pumiliotoxin B, the glycosidase inhibition exhibited
by castanospermine, and the antitumor activity of swainsoine. Thus a simple
asymmetric synthesis of the functionalised indolizidine and related frameworks
provides an attractive starting point for a diversity oriented approach
to drug discovery.
